I was introduced to Dick Taylor by a realtor in Rochester. We looked at his bids and three other people and we decided to give them a contract. And we’ve been doing business with them ever since. What Jim Taylor does is he simplifies the building process, walks us through, tells us what makes sense— should we be building something that has a higher cube, because of the steel it doesn’t cost that much more and we can get an extra layer of product in— ideas such as this. I used to be a lending officer at Marine Midland, I ran the mortgage department. Most of my customers were builders, so I understood tradespeople fairly well because I worked there seven years and I did the construction lending for the bank for three of those seven years, so I knew a lot of people that were in the trade, kind of knew what to look for. RJ Taylor has a very fair way of bidding, they involve you in the building process. Typically when we have a project, Jim will come in here, we’ll sit down with my management people, my warehouse people, and present space problems we have, how can we do something better, how can we do it efficiently. He introduces us to architects, we’ve used different architects on different projects. So Jim has become the point person, because these are areas of expertise we’re not familiar with. He’s fun to work with, my people enjoy working with him. RJ Taylor is a quality contractor that understands delivering product on a timetable, for a fair price.

 What led us to choose RJ Taylor in the end was, after meeting with them several times, RJ Taylor and their staff had the best knowledge of the building products we were going to use, the pre-engineered building, the masonry needs we had, all the dock equipment. They had not only the knowledge of the products, but they had the knowledge of the cost basis behind putting them together. What stands out the most is the knowledge of their staff and their honesty. They gave us honest answers, sometimes they told me things I didn’t want to hear, but it was the honest truth about what we were getting into and what we wanted to do. And we ended up relying on them for every decision we had with the building. RJ Taylor simplified the building process in many ways for us. It was a design/build project where we didn’t have to devote countless man-hours of our employees to keep designing and building this building from scratch. They did a lot of the groundwork for us. They came to us for the crucial decisions and consulted with us on what would work best for our operation. When you’re building a building there are so many decisions, you can run away with things. You can really get fancy, everything from the entryway to different offices and hallways, and they really gave us an honest appraisal of what different costs were and helped us really keep focused on our budget and remember what we were trying to achieve.
